Rudolph the Reindeer - Christmas Ornament Pattern

Here in Slovenia we have a custom to set up the Christmas tree on the Christmas Eve. So, I still have some time to make Christmas ornaments :) Yesterday I finished Rudolph the reindeer ornament – my very first design :) - and since he turned out quite cute I wanted to share with you a free pattern. I hope you are going to like it.

MATERIALS

·         Brown yarn for the head and ears.

·         Beige yarn for the antlers.

·         Red yarn for the nose.

·         2.00mm crochet hook

·         Yarn needle

·         Fiberfill

·         6mm safety eyes

       ABBREVIATIONS

·         Ch – chain

·         Sc – single crochet

·         Sts – stitches

·         Dec - decrease

Head

Use brown yarn. Work in spiral.

Row 1: Ch 2, 6 sc in second ch from hook. (6 sts)

Row 2: 2 sc in each sc around. (12 sts)

Row 3: Sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 8 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in last sc. (14 sts)

Row 4: Sc in each sc around. (14 sts)

Row 5: Sc in each sc around. (14 sts)

Row 6: Sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 10 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in last sc. (16 sts)

Row 7: Sc in each sc around. (16 sts)

Row 8: Sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 5 sc. (18 sts)

Row 9: Sc in each sc around. (18 sts)

Row 10: Sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in last sc. (22 sts)

Row 11: Sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 14 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in last 3 sc. (24 sts)

Row 12: Sc in next 8 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in last 8 sc. (26 sts)

Row 13 – 15: Sc in each sc around. (26 sts)

Row 16: Sc in next 5 sc, dec 1, sc in next 12 sc, dec 1, sc in last 5 sc. (24 sts)

Place 6mm safety eyes. Begin stuffing head.

Row 17: Sc in next 6 sc, dec 1, sc in next 6 sc, dec 1, sc in next 6 sc, dec 1. (21 sts)

Row 18: Sc in next 2 sc, dec 1, sc in next 5 sc, dec 1, sc in next 5 sc, dec 1, sc in last 3 sc. (18 sts)

Row 19: *Dec 1, sc 1* repeat 6 times. (12 sts)

Row 20: *Dec 1* repeat 6 times. (6 sts)

Fasten off and weave in end.

Ears (make 2)

Use brown yarn. Work in spiral.

Row 1: Ch 2, 6 sc in second ch from hook. (6 sts)

Row 2: 2 sc in each sc around. (12 sts)

Row 3: Sc in each sc around. (12 sts)

Fasten off and leave long end for sewing. Sew to head.

Nose

Use red yarn. Work in spiral.

Row 1: Ch 2, 6 sc in second ch from hook. (6 sts)

Row 2: 2 sc in each sc around. (12 sts)

Row 3 – 5: Sc in each sc around. (12 sts)

Begin stuffing nose.

Row 6: *Dec 1* repeat 6 times. (6 sts)

Fasten off and leave long end for sewing. Sew to head.

Antlers 1 (make 2)

Use beige yarn. Work in spiral.

Row 1: Ch 2, 5 sc in second ch from hook. (5 sts)

Row 2 – 7: Sc in each sc around. (5 sts)

Begin stuffing antler.

Row 8: Sc in each sc around. (5 sts)

Fasten off and leave long end for sewing. Sew to head.

Antlers 2 (make 2)

Use beige yarn. Work in spiral.

Row 1: Ch 2, 5 sc in second ch from hook. (5 sts)

Row 2 – 3: Sc in each sc around. (5 sts)

Begin stuffing antler.

Row 4: Sc in next 3 sc. (3 sts)

Fasten off and leave long end for sewing. Sew to Alter 1.

FINISHING

Use a brown cord to make a loop on the Rudolph’s head. Tie the ends in a knot. You can hide a knot in Rudolph’s head.

The winter is here

The real winter is finally here! We have 40cm of snow and the temperature is below zero :) Because it’s freezing outside, I decided to make my first crochet mittens and I believe I’ll be able to complete the first mitten today. As soon as I’m done with crocheting I will post the free pattern (which will be more precise than the one for the turban headband! :))

Here is my work in progress:

The countryside looks really beautiful covered with snow. Here are some photos I took in our garden. Our furry family member Leda enjoys playing in the snow.

I would also like to share with you some photos of yesterday’s event. A few weeks ago a local artist, who also works as an art teacher in my town’s grammar school, called me and asked me if I wanted to present his exhibition. Since I’m a student of art history I was really happy to accept this task. To make this story short, yesterday was the opening of the exhibition Barvite (which in Slovene means colourful) and everything went well. We had a really nice time and I am really honoured to part of it.

Crochet turban headband - FREE PATTERN

I like to wear my hair up but in this time of year it can get quite cold for the ears :) That's why I decided to make myself a warm turban headband.

Skill level: Easy

Abbreviations:  ch – chain

                                hdc – half double crochet

Pattern note: Chain 2 at beginning of the row counts as first half double crochet.

Row 1: Ch until it matches your head size.

Row 2: Ch 2, hdc in each of the remaining ch, turn.

Row 3 - ?:  Repeat Row 2. Make as many rows as you wish but don't forget that this is going to be only half of the width of your headband.

At the end of the last row fasten off, leaving long end.

Finishing:

Here is a little video which will show you how to tie a headband.

Slowly take the headband off your head and sew both ends together and upper and lower part of the headband.

And voilà, here is your turban headband :)
