Crochet turban headband - FREE PATTERN

I like to wear my hair up but in this time of year it can get quite cold for the ears :) That's why I decided to make myself a warm turban headband.

Skill level: Easy
Abbreviations:  ch – chain
                                hdc – half double crochet

Pattern note: Chain 2 at beginning of the row counts as first half double crochet.

Row 1: Ch until it matches your head size.
Row 2: Ch 2, hdc in each of the remaining ch, turn.
Row 3 - ?:  Repeat Row 2. Make as many rows as you wish but don't forget that this is going to be only half of the width of your headband.

At the end of the last row fasten off, leaving long end.

Finishing:

Here is a little video which will show you how to tie a headband.

Slowly take the headband off your head and sew both ends together and upper and lower part of the headband.

And voilà, here is your turban headband :)

Have a nice week!

  5. This is a wonderful pattern and headband. Thank you for sharing the pattern. Did you use 4 worsted weight yarn?

  6. I am wondering what weight of yarn you used for this project. I am excited to try this pattern as looks exactly like what I have been searching for . I am new to the knitting and crocheting world so still need fairly straight forward projects.
Thank you for your assistance with my questions,

  8. What type of yarn please?

  9. The initial chain needs to wrap around your head TWICE, it should be simple from there!

  13. How did you sew the top and bottom piece together? I know you slip stitched the end together but how did you do the top and bottom? Thanks so much, love the pattern!

  16. Hmmm video is not working on mobile or laptop????

  17. H hook, chained 150 to start, 3 rows of hdc. Note: I marked chain number 75 before I started sewing the two halves together and started sewing from the center back whipstitching through each of the stitches; this ensured it was even stitching all the way around to the turban knot.

  18. Is anyone else having issues with slip stitch causing the headband to be to restricted. There's no give in the headband. I've tried both the slip stitch and needle, but if your making this for someone how do you know if it's going to fit without getting there measurements. Is there another way to connect the two sections?

    1. Hello, Happy New Year! I did not submit this pattern but I have used it successfully. I highly recommend www.yarn.com for their selection, quality, price and service. So far my favorite cotton yarn is:
      Cascade Yarns UltraPima, 100% Pima Cotton, 100grams / 3.5 oz. = 220 yards, 200 meters
Appropriate hooks are 3.5mm to 4.5mm
This particular yarn is Very Strong, Durable and Shiny. There are many colors to choose from.
However, you may choose ANY sport or worseted weight Cotton yarn.
I hope this is helpful information.
(Cascade's UltraPima Cotton must really be seen to be believed; when compared to all the local retail yarn available in my city... it's quality amazes me and the price for 100grams of Cascade is usually equal to 50grams of my local retail yarn! Enjoy!!)
      Peace,
      Julie Hart

  21. I'm not sure what I did wrong. I did one row of sc, then 3 rows of hdc in each stitch. It came out all curly and not at all looking like the picture. It won't lay flat on my head. This is my first crochet project so any advice is welcome!
